Wacken1994/95
Having heard of a great new metal festival in the northern part of Germany it was in 1994 we first drove to Wacken (middle of nowhere only known for some crazy motorcycle parties). My friends were busy doing some interviews for Förde Fetz Radio (DK) and everyone was rather glad to have such a great live appearance of heavy metal bands on stage all day. The atmosphere was compared to nowadays pretty familiar, e.g. the food was served by a few people from a tent to backstage area one side and audience the other. Personally I liked the small festival area with big grass steps going up like in a theater but of course it was not suitable for the year after year increasing amount of people going there. Concerning the bands it was special for me seeing Gamma Ray for the first time and meeting so many unknown bands trying to find an open ear for their music. In 1995 it was the danish invasion with DAD who played a great set with rocking HELPYOURSELFISH songs and Denmark`s all time favs Pretty Maids that blew me away. Meeting the organiser Holger after that festival at another event he seemed quite disappointed because he had expected more than about 2000 guests. We kept our fingers crossed for the next year, well...gives me a great laugh now :)
